Looking forward to next year

Now that the first year of MTP is coming to an end, I am taking stock on what are the things I feel I’ve gotten right, and on the other hand, what I could do to make things work better for me and my clients in the new year. One thing I’m going to revamp completely is my wedding packages. I set up the current packages the way they are because, when I was starting out, I felt like it was ‘the thing to do’. But I’ve now come to realise that they feel a bit artificial to me and don’t work hard enough for what I want to do for my clients, which often means that I end up adding things for free in order to get the results I want to.

My whole premise of starting to do weddings in the first place was the desire to tell the story of the day in a book. And to do that, I really need to be present throughout the day, and also, the book needs to be quite substantial in pagination. So to have these packages, with varying hours and sizes of books, makes it very difficult for me to actually deliver the product that I want to produce.

Another thing that I’ve found very useful is to have some sort of engagement or pre-wedding shoot with the couple prior to the big day. It gives an opportunity for us to know each other better, and for all parties to have an idea about what it is like to work together. That’s some valuable information right there, and it will make the photography on the wedding day flow a lot more effortlessly.

So for 2009 I’m working towards having just one basic package. It will include a full day of photography, a book and a pre-wedding shoot as standard. Most other items will probably move to the A’la carte menu. Like I said, I’m still working on it, but I am aiming to have the new price list up at the start of January.

In the meanwhile, if you have been thinking about contacting me and have taken a liking to one of the current packages, do get in touch before the end of the year and I will honour those prices.
