Alice | Family session

This, like the shoot with Jodie, wasn’t quite a ‘newborn’ shoot any more since Alice as well is already 10 weeks old. Usually I recommend newborn shoots to take place within the first 1-2 weeks purely because it’s easier for the lil’un. At only days old, rather than weeks, babies are not really that aware of what’s happening. Thus they don’t really mind that much playing the supermodel, unlike a bit older babies who are more aware that something is required of them but can’t understand what, which would make anyone a bit cranky (not to mention the stripping you nekkid and pointing a camera at you bit)! Louise and Matt certainly worked hard to get Alice to give me some absolutely adorable smiles, and boy was it well worth it. I don’t care what you say, you just can’t help but adore this little angel!

Jodie | Family session

Penny and Rob contacted me as they wanted to get some family portraits of the three of them with their daughter Jodie, and to get a record of this special time in their lives in general. At 10 weeks old Jodie wasn’t quite sure about the whole photo shoot malarkey, but it was still pretty impossible to take non-cute photos of this cutie – just look at those eyes! Thanks Penny and Rob for letting me take a peek into your family life, hopefully Jodie wasn’t too traumatised by the demands of the model lifestyle!

The Hootons’ award-winning feet

I got a bit of a surprise in the post today. From time to time I take part in competitions that the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers organises and, as it turns out, last month my picture of the family Hootons’ feet won a gold award in the ‘Family and Group Portraiture’ category. What do you know. I had no idea I would be receiving a fancy certificate for it as well, how very posh! :D Must apologise for the poor picture quality, I just snapped it quickly with my phone.

Literally right after opening the envelope the doorbell rang, and it was Sarah with baby Lucinda coming to pick up the hi-res disc from their shoot. While I was cooing over how much Lucinda had grown since our shoot, and showing her how her feet were award winning, I heard the front door close behind me. Yes indeed. There I was, locked outside, sans shoes or a phone or anything. Not my finest moment! After a few minutes of panic, I realised the security lock wasn’t on (note to any would-be burglars, it usually is!) as I’d only stepped outside temporarily, and with the help of Sarah’s slender hands we managed to break me back into the house. What are clients for eh! :D I blame the whole incident on Lucinda and her distracting cuteness. She also seemed suspiciously amused by the whole thing I must say!

And here are the award-winning feet.

Lucinda | Newborn

I’m very sorry if I’ve just killed you with cuteness. You can now sympathise with how I felt editing these pictures, it was pretty much impossible not to go awwwww every few seconds. :D You will probably remember how I took some maternity portraits of Sarah & Steve at the start of July. Well, Lucinda Rose Hooton arrived fashionably late on the evening of Wednesday 22nd of July, and she did her first professional photo shoot when just 8 days old. And I have to tell you that she was one of the most agreeable models I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with! She smiled her way through most of the shoot, and only peed on mum once. Her only complaint was that it got a bit chilly when she was modeling in the buff, but all in all she was a little angel. And will you just look at those perfect little feet! <3

Sarah & Steve | Maternity

After the (very sweaty) studio session, we headed out to the park for some more pictures. I have to say that I do prefer working on location. There’s such a freedom in not being restricted by space or lighting equipment, and people tend to relax more when they’re outside, making it easier to catch those genuine moments. This is definitely where I want to move towards when it comes to portrait and maternity sessions. I personally really love these images!

Sarah’s due date is in just a few weeks and I can’t wait to meet, and photograph, the new arrival.
