In case you have been wondering where I’ve been for the past few weeks, here comes your explanation. I love road tripping and this trip along the west coast of the US, from LA to Portland, was as epic as they come. I ended my trip at the WPPI 2013 convention in Las Vegas, which was exhausting but also a lot of fun.
There were so many highlights… San Francisco, Big Sur, the redwoods, the foggy Oregon coastline… What I loved most though was hanging out with old friends & family, and making new friends along the way – there are so many memories from this trip that I will treasure forever.
It’s a bit of a bumper post so brace yourselves for many a picture of the road and sea…
Looked amazing, Marianne; jealous!
Loved looking through these, fantastic work. Really want some pancakes now tho……
Epic is certainly the right word for this trip – looks fantastic. Back to reality now I expect ;)
Indeed… *sigh*
What an amazing roadtrip! I too did the trip from LA to Vegas but I didn’t get to see those beautiful redwoods or hang out with other superstar photographers! amazing! Tx
Probably should have specified that road trip was from LA to Portland… then flew to Vegas for WPPI.
My geography is so bad, just looked on google maps to see and wow! that was an epic trip, did you clock the miles and how it took you? I’m hoping to do another trip there someday Tx
this is The Dreamtrip.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW, Totally epic! Beautiful as always x
Love this you and Stew look so happy, just got a question is that bacon, pancakes & ICE CREAM on one plate? xxxx
It was butter of some sort, I think…
Marianne, these are just amazing. Amazingly ridiculous. The light in some of them just makes me want to run out and find an ice cream van, and others bring a tear to my eye with the longing to go travelling again. I see images daily, but you can feel things through these images, they have so much soul. They have so much contrast. Thank you for a brilliant start to my Tuesday :)
Aww that’s very sweet of you… To me these are just holiday snapshots, I wasn’t really aiming for anything more than that. But it makes me happy that they brighten your day. :)
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Mnoo on holiday. That was really nice.
I especially loved the cherry blossom, the first of you & Stu & that one with some soft sunshine on your face in the car. Looks like you had a brilliant time!
I know right? Must do this holiday thing more often…
Looked like a fab road trip. Great images.
Blooming marvellous! That made me very excited it looked amazing
Woaw, very very beautiful !!! I love your work so much !

(here are my pics http://paolomezzera.com/2013/03/20/new-york-city/ )
your trip diary is simply amazing!! :-)
What an incredible trip!! Tons of great moments captured here :)
Gorgeous holidays photos! Hope you don’t mind me asking… What camera have you used? Or have you applied filters later in photoshop? Love the sumptuous colours.
Thanks, Kat. They are a collection of iPhone, 5DmkIII and Holga shots. The heavier-looking filters are generally iPhone generated.
Your trip looks fabulous! It was so nice to meet you in Vegas, looks like you had a wonderful time! Beautiful images!
A-mazing! what a cool collection of dreamy landscapes and characters! I’m thrilled to see I made the cut ;) x
Marianne, this is breathtaking! I just felt the hot summer sun, been to the foggy forest and the dry American desert! This was an amazing trip, thank you so much for sharing, really inspiring. You completely made my day!
and… was hesitating to ask: is it you with Jose Villa on one of the photos?
I love it when wedding photographers go on holidays / roadtrips. Looks amazing, I hope you loved it. The images are out of this world!
Mark Tierney went to New York recently too, loved his photos as well.
I’m soooooo jealous!
Crikey! Reached the bottom of the blog post at last! That’s got to be the longest blog post ever. Nice pictures though.
I love absolutely everything in this post. Your work rocks my soul. Also – I was supposed to be at WPPI this year, but couldn’t make it. I’d love to meet you next time!!
Cheers!
Hi Marianne
As ever, an **amazing** collection of images.
Looking through the photos reminded me of our happy times doing almost the same route that you took….before kids changed everything!
Happy memories – thank you so much for sharing.
Cheers
Jay x
Great photos Marianne, I have a really similar trip coming up… excited now!
Thanks for blogging this. It’s always a delight to view vacation photos of a great photographer. I am planning a US West Coast trip myself so I really enjoyed your photos!

Really love these pictures! Fantastic work! :)
Great pictures, looking at them you make me feel like i’m there. I really like the bicycle one. Thank you for sharing :)
Wow what an adventure! Gorgeous photographs Marianne, you have captured the beauty in every image :)
I love your wedding work but seeing this stunning collection of more personal work really confirms to me what a complete and inspirational photographer you are. Cape to Caro next?
I think it is always important to take some time out, not have the pressures of a wedding and go back to the real art of photography. Your trip has been captured beautifully and is an inspiration to see, I love the photo of the dog in the bike basket- how cool!
Brilliant photography! and nice to see Jesh and Jeff….
