The Goldhawk Family : family session in Newquay

It was such a pleasure to meet Zanna & Harry (who run the Cornish-based Papio Press) and little Theo for a family session at my local park in Newquay. We were so lucky to catch some beautiful autumn rays, and since Zanna and Harry didn’t have any portraits from their wedding day, we also indulged in some sweet couple time with them!

‘Zanna grew up in Cornwall so when we got married we knew it was the perfect place to move to start our family. We wanted to do something special to celebrate the arrival of little Theo and were over the moon with these photos. We’re illustrators that are hugely inspired by plants and nature so it just felt right to capture these lovely family memories amongst the trees.’

The Lepola Family : day on the beach family shoot

I’ve worked with Hayley & Lucas on commercial photography for some years, and it has been so lovely to see their family grow, first with June and more recently with little Otis. I couldn’t have been happier to spend some time on a beach in Cornwall to capture them and their gorgeous family, making Cornish memories.

‘We first visited Cornwall in 2014 when Hayley was pregnant with our first. We regretted not having visited sooner as we immediately we fell in love with the beautiful beaches, towns and countryside. We came back the following year for our first family holiday with June. Most recently we’ve been back with June’s baby brother for our first holiday as a family of four. We’ve made so many special family memories here and can’t wait to make a family tradition of spending time together in beautiful Cornwall.’

Our shoot fell between swelteringly hot days, and it was actually nice to get a wee break from the sun and get to shoot in some even light. Besides, any day is a good beach day!

Springtime Family Session in London

It’s that time of year when I get to make frequent trips to London, both for weddings but also for sweet Family Sessions like these. I’ve photographed Marie & Jens a couple of times over the years, but this time was made super special by the addition of little Oscar. We had to do some serious cajoling to get this little man in the mood for photos, but when he did… well, just look at that adorable smile!

I would also like to thank the kindly pigeons of St James’ Park for their assistance in ‘operation smile’. :D

Sunset Family Session on Venice Beach

Salty waves, sandy toes, and wide smiles. While the days are getting chillier and chillier in the UK, going through pictures from last month’s sunset family session on Venice Beach in California certainly helped fill me with a warm glow! There’s something pretty magical about an ocean bathing in golden light, and it’s hard to find a more perfect setting for family photography than a beach with plenty of room for everyone to run around. Pour a cuppa and join me in a little bit of California dreaming below!

London Family Portraits in the spring

This London family session was a little bit different! With three generations attending, this was by far the largest group I’ve ever done a Together Session with. The shoot itself was a birthday present to Lida, the matriarch of the family, from her children. It was a rare occasion having all her family on the same continent, which made it that much more special to capture this moment of time for her.

Because Lida simply loved blossoms and wanted to capture all the members of her family individually, we made many pretty portraits inside the blossoming trees, ignoring the funny looks we might have gotten from passers-by! While it was a little bit hectic trying to get everyone organised, I loved the exuberant energy and all the laughter and teasing between siblings – old and young.

Happy Birthday, Lida, you really are a gorgeous lady, inside and out! x
