Pen & Cam : Cornish farewell couple shoot

Last time I photographed Pen & Cam was for their anniversary session right after they had moved to Cornwall. It’s a little bit bittersweet that this next shoot took place at a time when they were getting ready to relocate to Cam’s native Australia. They will be deeply missed by most of Cornwall (no joke, there are SO many people here that love these two!), and I’m hoping Cornwall will always hold a tiny piece of their hearts as they look over a different ocean.

We were both raised by oceans and eventually migrated to jungles of concrete. With time, it became clear we yearned for the raw energy of the sea. The need to breathe grew and we found ourselves moving to a windswept Cornish Headland, and we’ve never regretted that decision.

Rosanne & Olly : a love story of two beaches

Oh my, how time flies! It suddenly seems ages ago when we went for a cliffside walk with Rosanne & Olly (avec the most adorable Turnip!) on one of the many many days last summer when the sun was just relentlessly bright and warm all the way into the evening. What I’d do to go back now! Not a lot beats the magnificent views of Cornwall, but getting to spend time giggling with these two just might, adorable doesn’t quite cover it.

From opposite sides of the coast, we met in the middle and a relationship developed from laughter, adventure and love of music. One year on, and it’s still the same – exploring, walking and smiling.

Frøy & Alex : couple photography in the dunes

Frøy, from Norway & Alex, from Devon, have made Cornwall their home while Frøy studies here. On a beautiful hazy summer’s day, we had a little shoot on the beach to create a memory of this time in their lives.

Sophie & Gareth : Midsummer’s couple session in Cornwall

It was Midsummer’s Eve and the weather really couldn’t have been more beautiful when we headed out to West Pentire for Sophie & Gareth’s couple session. Sophie loves colour, so we were beyond excited that the poppies were out for us – what could be more perfect than a cliff-top poppy field on a gloriously sunny day?

It was only supposed to be a year – I was straight out of uni and needed some time to figure out what our next steps were. 8 years later, and Cornwall has allowed us to not only build a business together but also to develop a pace of life that no other part of the UK would’ve allowed – to enjoy together, to grow together, to explore together.’

We wrapped up the session with a walk on Crantock beach and some pizza afterwards. I loved spending time with these two, enjoying the beautiful Cornish scenery, and all the laughter and joy. It really was the perfect Midsummer!

McKenzie & Cameron | Together

‘Cameron loves football (the proper kind, not the American kind, haha) and golf. He’s a total guy in every sense, but definitely has a goofy, sensitive side. I work in marketing and love paper crafts, sewing, cooking, baking, and reading. I am a complete bookworm. One of our very favourite pastimes is going on what you might call ‘everyday adventures’, which usually entail exploring a new neighbourhood or town and eating a lot of tasty food. I do more shopping on these outings than Cam would probably like! We’re quite a playful couple and love a good laugh.’

I think I’ve had a little bit of a girl crush on McKenzie ever since that first email I received from her. She is just so open, fun and enthusiastic, and I couldn’t wait for these two to get to London from California, so that we could go on our own ‘everyday adventure’ to celebrate their engagement.

McKenzie studied in London and the British Library is very dear to her heart, so it naturally became our starting point. From there we wondered the streets of Bloomsbury in search of pretty nooks and crannies, pretty much giggling all the way through.

I had so much fun during McKenzie & Cameron’s London engagement shoot, and I wish they have an amazing time planning their Californian wedding day!

Shira & Vladimir | Together

On a crisp, sunny autumn day, we got together with Shira & Vladimir for their engagement Together Session in central London, right in their own home neighbourhood. I had such a lovely time walking among the gorgeous colours of London and getting to know Shira & Vladimir better. I also loved watching them go from being a little bit shy in front of the camera, to embracing just having fun together! I think I also need to send an official thank you note to the sun for making an appearance after what had been an absolutely miserable rainy week up until then!

Jasmine & Russell | Together

Jasmine & Russell’s Bushy Park engagement session was quite adrenaline inducing, as it turned out that their adorable french bulldogs, Clouseau & Valentina, weren’t the biggest hit with the local deer population. There were a few occasions where we felt better to move on when a huge deer made it’s opinion loud and clear, or when another one went into Rambo mode and started coming at us across the pond!

Never the less, we did manage to avoid a major incident, and it was actually lovely to spend time with these two, as they were so clearly absolutely smitten with each other. And what can I said about Clouseau & Valentina? The deer might not have warmed to these two cuties, but they certainly stole my heart completely!

Hilda & Quain | Together

I must warn you, this one is going to be one of those ‘you won’t believe what happened next’ kinda stories you see circulating on Facebook. After a brilliant July, August decided to be a complete nightmare and just threw such horrendous weather at us that we had to postpone Hilda & Quain’s London engagement session several times. Finally, we just decided to take the plunge, and armed with our umbrellas we headed to the streets of Belgravia. It had been raining on and off for most of the day, but the rain stopped around five minutes before we started. How lucky, we thought. We had no idea just how lucky we turned out to be!

We had a lovely time walking the still damp streets, and once we changed locations to the South Bank, the sun was starting to go down and the sky began looking more and more dramatic. Finally, in front of the London Eye, I pressed the shutter for the final time. And at that exact moment, the skies ripped open, the wind exploded and a rainstorm unlike any I’ve witnessed before assaulted us with such force it nearly knocked me off my feet! The timing of it was just incredible, and I feel like some sort of magic must have kept the time we did our shoot dry. As an added bonus I got to capture a pretty dramatic sky for the last few frames. (I did get entirely soaked on the way home, mind.)

Ashley & Jacky | Together

How about a little bit of summer magic? Ashley & Jacky came all the way from Hong Kong to have their engagement, or pre-wedding shoot, in the UK where they used to study. In some places, such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, it’s quite common to have your wedding portraits done before the big day. Mainly because the weddings tend to be so big and busy with hundreds of guests, and often held at hotels with no access to wilder locations outside, plus it’s customary to have the portraits on display at your wedding.

We had such a lovely time traipsing around the Hampton Court & East Molesey area, and charming some deer in Bushy Park. I’m personally a little bit in love with these images, and I hope you’ll see why!

Charlotte & Luke | Together

I just love Bushy Park, and I was so happy when Charlotte & Luke agreed to have their engagement session there. The day was beautiful and the deer came out of hiding, it couldn’t have been much more perfect. I had so much fun with these two, and I can’t wait for their wedding at the amazing Preston Court later this year!

Fleur & Nick | Together

The weather was outrageous on the day of Fleur & Nick’s engagement session. The wind and the rain felt like an impossible obstacle when we started, and then something magical happened. The rain stopped – just enough for us to do our thing – before returning with a vengeance. I think we got mysteriously lucky, because Fleur & Nick deserve all the luck and laughter in the world. They fell in love in dramatic circumstances, as survivors of a horrible accident, and for them to get through all that together, the happiness they found with each other feels all the more poignant. I can’t wait to celebrate their wedding day at the end of the summer!

Well, what can I say? We had pretty much a perfect day for Annie & Hamish’s London engagement session. The sun peeked gently from behind the clouds, there was a light breeze, and London was really showing it’s best spring colours. Spending time outside on a beautiful day with a lovely couple such as Annie and Hamish really makes me appreciate my job and count my blessings!

We did experience some drama, when the balloons decided to unexpectedly make a run for it! But even so, good times were had. It was such a pleasure, Monique & Eric!

I’ve shot a few sessions with beautiful blossom already this spring, and I couldn’t love them more. Blossom really makes everything better. It started raining during Karen & Michael’s London engagement session, but with all those gorgeous flowers around, it didn’t really matter at all in the end. It was definitely a win for the prettiness, and for this lovely couple. Welcome, spring!

After wall to wall rain, it seemed like a little miracle when, for the couple of hours we spent together with Katie & Alphonse for their London engagement session, the sun came to play, only to retreat back behind the rainclouds the minute we were done. It was such a pleasure to spend time with Katie & Alphonse, in fact, I think what actually happens is that these two generate their own sunshine, so joyous was their energy together. Oh, Florence, how I love thee. Last month I spent a couple of weeks in Tuscany (more on that later) and was very happy to fit in an engagement session in Florence with Lyn & Marc. Florence to me is just pure magic, it’s definitely up there on the list of cities I could live in. In the early hours of the day, we headed out to the almost empty streets in search of some gorgeous light, courtesy of the rising sun. And what a lovely morning we had. I think being a Florence-based photographer of couples in love should definitely be noted down somewhere in my life plan. Yup.

I know it’s been a bit quiet on the blog, sorry about that! This summer has been full of so many lovely weddings, that can’t quite keep up with sharing them. In the meanwhile, here’s a cute London engagement session with Alana & Daniel who are getting married next year in Sweden where they live (can’t wait!). They wanted to do an engagement session in their native country, and we chose Green Park as the location for it’s lovely green backdrop. Beautiful light and a happy couple, what more could I ask for?

Jessie & Peter’s London engagement session was so much fun! Having travelled all the way from New Zealand, they wanted to make the most of the city and the different types of environments that can be found even just within central London, and I think we did pretty well at finding backgrounds from urban all the way to romantic. There was also a first of sorts for me, when we went to visit the Emirates Stadium for some shots that made Peter, a huge Arsenal fan, very happy indeed. I just loved spending time with these two cuties!
