Springtime in London! It was such a pleasure to get to know Rebecca & Craig while walking some of my favourite streets during their London engagement shoot. These two are getting married in Aynhoe Park later this year, which fills me with such excitement, magical things always happen at Aynhoe!
The loveliest couple, a beautiful summer evening, and London showing its best. What more could you ask for? I just loved spending a magical golden hour photographing Isabel & Angel’s anniversary session. It was such a pleasure to meet you guys, I hope you’ll have many more gorgeous anniversaries to celebrate in the future! x
The weather was outrageous on the day of Fleur & Nick’s engagement session. The wind and the rain felt like an impossible obstacle when we started, and then something magical happened. The rain stopped – just enough for us to do our thing – before returning with a vengeance. I think we got mysteriously lucky, because Fleur & Nick deserve all the luck and laughter in the world. They fell in love in dramatic circumstances, as survivors of a horrible accident, and for them to get through all that together, the happiness they found with each other feels all the more poignant. I can’t wait to celebrate their wedding day at the end of the summer!
Eileen & Noel are both from New Zealand, but met while living and working in London. Now they are engaged and planning their wedding and move back to the homeland. To celebrate their engagement, and their time together in London, on a beautiful London afternoon we made the most of the sunshine and buzz of the South Bank.
This blog post means a great deal to me. It is both a return to something familiar, and the beginning of something new. Before I shot weddings, before I got lucky enough to be too busy to think about anything but weddings, I used to make a lot of personal work. Photography was an outlet for my ideas and an expression of what was going on inside. And while I obviously love love love calling photography work now, for the longest time I’ve missed not making personal work, not shooting anything just for myself.
Sure, I’ve talked about starting a personal project. A lot. I’ve abused Instagram and I’ve tried to complete a 365 project on the iPhone. But it is not the same. When ever I thought about a ‘proper’ personal project, I felt it should be something… grand, something with a wider reach, something that would help people… and yes, that’s something I still want to do down the line. But I realised that in order to start making more personal work, I have to start with something more straightforward. I have to start from within. I have to start with what gives me joy, right now.
So, almost by accident, I finally stumbled onto a project. The music of Message to Bears has been hugely inspirational to me for a while now. Many a wedding has been edited to the beautiful songs written by Jerome Alexander, and I felt this huge pull to spend some time with this man and make a few photos along the way. When we got together and walked around Southwark chatting about music and chasing the sun, a feeling of a flame being ignited took over. I had nearly forgotten how amazing it felt to be taking photographs just for myself, just because. And then and there I decided that this would continue…
The working name for this project is ‘Dreamers’, and I mean to photograph people who inspire me in different ways. People who dream big.
I am so fricken excited.
Juliana & Andre are getting married in their home country of Brazil next year, but since Juliana has been studying in London, they wanted to do an engagement session that would remind them of the city she’s been calling home for a year.
I had such a brilliant time with these two! I am forever thankful for all the wonderful people I get to meet and hangout with thanks to this job, couldn’t think of anything I’d rather do really.
Juliana & Andre, I hope you will have an absolute blast of a wedding day, with air conditioning and some mini burgers to boot! ;)
Remember last year when we went to Paris with Wendy & Martin for ‘part I’ of their engagement session? We always planned to do ‘part II’ in London, but it took nearly a year of arranging and re-arranging dates until we finally got together again. It was so nice to see Wendy & Martin again, and we spent a thoroughly lovely afternoon traipsing around South Bank and catching up on what’s been happening in their lives in the past year. And I just have to say, I love Wendy’s new hairstyle, sooo cute!
Meet Emily & James. They are getting married in a couple of days in Florence. Personally, I’m about to burst with excitement! I absolutely love Italy and used to go there every year, back in the days when the concept of a ‘summer holiday’ was still viable. I got proposed to in Venice and went to Rome for my honeymoon (which is actually the last time I’ve been to Italy). It’s been years since I’ve last been to Florence, and I am over the moon to be travelling there now, especially for such a joyous occasion as Emily & James’ wedding.
We had such a fun engagement session in Southwark, and I cannot wait for Saturday, it will be epic! I hope these two will attract the light in the same magical way over there than they did in London.
It will be a bit quieter here for the next few weeks as I have two weddings to travel to. I will pop back in between and hopefully finish off some weddings that I didn’t quite manage to process yet, so stay tuned. But for now, arrivederci!
Been feeling a bit blah today so I thought I’d post Emilie & Guillaume’s engagement session on the South Bank in order to cheer myself up a bit. So much colour and laughter! I loved these two, and feel so honoured that they came all the way from France to have a session with me. Thank you Emilie and Guillaume, I do hope your wedding day will be absolutely fantabulous! x
Kate & Kris’ London engagement session was so much fun. Kate contacted me after she had fallen in love with the locations for Rose & Brendan’s engagement shoot, wanting to have hers in the same area in Southwark. I was more than happy to oblige, as I really do love that part of London, it has a certain calmness about it and there are lots of interesting backdrops to be found.
Kate & Kris live in London, but are from New Zealand, where they are getting married. I wish I could say that they are packing me in their suitcase for the wedding, but sadly that’s not the case. My lifelong dream is to visit New Zealand, and it was veeery close that I would have covered a wedding over there next year, but in the end it wasn’t meant to be due to bad timings. A girl can continue dreaming though right…
It was much fun hanging out with Kate & Kris, I hope you guys will have a gorgeous wedding day!
Rose & Brendan’s Southwark engagement session was so much fun. It was the first truly warm day of this spring (even if the temperature has taken a turn for the worse since then) and we even had a few rays of sunshine to brighten up our day. After the looooong, dark and cold winter we’ve had in London, it really felt good to be out and about without being dressed for an arctic expedition. I’m so looking forward to Rose and Brendan’s wedding in June, which, with Rose’s fashion designer credentials, is bound to be absolutely beautiful.
Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention, they also get a gold star for being the first couple ever who jumped perfectly on the first shot! :D
Rose & Brendan’s engagement shoot yesterday kicked butt. I really enjoyed traipsing around Southwark with this couple, and we even managed to capture some sunshine! Honestly, it was so very strange seeing sunlight through my camera for the first time in months…
To be honest, I really shouldn’t give you any more sneak peeks of anything until I’ve actually finished editing all the weddings and sessions I need to finish, but I just couldn’t resist testing out my new blogging platform. It’s been a long day of moving everything over to WordPress, but I think things work more or less normally now – or actually, even better than before.
